Sketch Wednesday: Frieza

Dragon Ball Z's intergalactic despot after Son Goku has roughed him up good. The androgynous, lizardy Frieza is a villainy high-point for Akira Toriyama's manga masterpiece. He's a brick wall of transformations and power-ups, against which the principal characters exhaust themselves. Despite sustaining horrifying losses to his own personal attache of alien lunatics, Frieza never seems even slightly rattled. Everyone's best, most desperate efforts are child's play to him, until he runs up against a prophecy warrior, created by his own hand.

Sketch Wednesday: Penguin

Created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, Penguin made his debut in December 1941's Detective Comics #58. Recently seen in the Batman: Arkham City video game with a right wonky Cockney accent, not mention thinks and demeanor in common with The Long Good Friday's Harold Shand.

Sketch Saturday: Captain America

A quicky to keep things rolling. Obviously an alternative Marvel stomping ground were a seething Luke Cage somehow became Captain America. Obviously.

Sketch Monday: Klegg

Leafing through copy paper review notes, I came across this doodle of a Klegg. Debuting in Judge Dredd mega epic The Day The Law Died, a Klegg is a giant, carnivore mercenary from outer space that'll only accept their payment in meat. Chief Judge Cal found them FASCINATING.

Sketch Thursday: A Pretty Girl and Optimus Prime

I think Pretty Girl has a whiff of an Osamu Tezuka lady about her. It's the eyes and nose. Optimus Prime is, of course, his Generation One self.

Sketch Sunday: Swamp Zombie

Been doodling a lot of zombies in work recently - make of that what you will. Here's a quick scan of my fav. I'm going to call him Swamp Zombie. It might help to think of Italian horror movie ickiness when you look at him.

Sketch Monday: Dhalsim

Disaster Year has spent the last few days in the company of Super Street Fighter IV. Most excellent it is too. It's especially nice to have the vandalism accented bonus stages back, even if they're not as fun as they used to be. As with all Capcom interim updates, Super IV has gotten beneath the bonnet and messed about with character values. Amongst the buffed is everyone's favourite offensive ethnic stereotype Dhalsim.

Sketch Saturday: Kick-Ass

A shifty eyed Kick-Ass. This looks very strange blown up, the original image is about the size of my thumb nail. A lot less sloppy when it's smaller too.

Sketch Saturday: Killer Carp

Vicious fish! Killer Carp was a face player in Hasbro and Takara's Battle Beasts toy line. Based around a rock-paper-scissors rumble between rubsign elements, Battle Beasts were a slew of tradable, pocket-sized uglies designed to be easily lost. Having acquired these tiny monstrosities, I doubt any boy was daft enough to risk losing them in a game of chance. These were keepers! In Japan, the figures were called Beastformers, lived on the planet Beest (natch), and enjoyed brief roles in the Headmasters season of Transformers.

Sketch Saturday: Thanos

Jim Starlin's disco coloured Darkseid knock-off first appeared in 1973's Iron Man #55. Since then he's gone on to cause lots of cosmic trouble, including courting a female personification of Death by annihilating his own people, and putting the shoe in on numerous galactic pantheons. Thanos relaxes by being an underappreciated roster filler in Capcom's Marvel vs Capcom 2. Here he is in grey tones. I got a grey tone pen set.

Sketch Saturday: Task Force 141

After seven or so days of multiplayer playtime, I finally managed to score myself a Tactical Nuke on Modern Warfare 2. In commemoration of this non-event, I commissioned myself to scratch out a pic of my scrappy SALT scuppering shitkicker. That's him there, all huddled and stressed. Loadout was a naked AK-47, an AA-12 that never got a look-in once the streak started, and Semtex for sticks. Perks rolled Sleight of Hand, Stopping Power and Ninja for sneaks. All Pro. Streaks hopped from Harrier to Chopper Gunner to Airburster. All credit to Mikhail Kalashnikov. Couldn't have done it without you.

Sketch Tuesday: Mr T

After yesterday's creeping disappointment, I figured a re-take was warranted. Doodled off in a midnight lull, here's a Mr T I can be proud of.

Doodled a lot of Ninja Turtles in work this week. This Michelangelo was the best. Suggestions are in the pipe line.

I'm hoping to get the weekend sketch post back on track. If there's anything or anyone you'd like to see me have a scrawl at, don't hesitate to comment. Even if you don't want to see them, please comment. I'm running dry on inspiration here.

Johnny Ryan's Prison Pit hero CF. Drawn from memory, hence the acres of superfluous bear-hair. Gushing review of book to follow.
