E3 2017 - Cuphead

Nearly there! Studio MDHR's gorgeous, long-trailed homage to Treasure shooters and Fleischer cartoons is set to release this September. By all accounts, Cuphead's extended development time can be attributed to a greatly expanded game scope that moved further and further away from a Betty Boop boss rush and the developer's decision to hand animate every single frame of the elasticated action.

E3 2015 - WELL BLOW ME DOWN

Studio MDHR are back with another trailer for their beautiful Cuphead, a game that resides at the collision point between Gunstar Heroes and Fleischer Studios animation. Video games are good at magpie-ing visual cues, anime and manga have been thoroughly plundered for effects, but they rarely work so hard to properly contextualise the swipe. Cuphead doesn't just cherry-pick the ideas, it looks exactly like an interactive Popeye cartoon.

E3 2014 Cuphead - BY GOLLY!

Continuing the vague trend of everything at Microsoft's conference looked like a futuristic version of a Mega Drive game was the delightful Cuphead. Question! Would I like to play an Alien Soldier style run and gunner that looks exactly like a Fleischer Studios Popeye cartoon? Yes. Yes I would. Thank you Studio MDHR.
