NieR Replicant ver. 1.22474487139... - BARRAGE

Described by series producer Yousuke Saito as a 'version up' rather than a remake of Nier Replicant (a Japanese exclusive PS3 release), the thoroughly titled NieR Replicant ver. 1.22474487139... looks to be continuing a new and very much appreciated trend (shouts also to Bluepoint) for the technical rejuvenating of notable curios that otherwise sputtered along on Sony's notoriously fussy seventh gen system.

NieR Re[in]carnation - BECOME AS GACHA

While we wait for news on the NieR Replicant remake, Square Enix have released a new trailer for their forthcoming, not to mention ambitious looking, mobile game NieR Re[in]carnation.

E3 2015 - RUBE GOLDBERG

Square Enix and IO Interactive bringing some of that Roger Deakins glam to their asexual murderer games. Hitman looks like a soft-reboot for a series that became increasingly obsessed with exploring the motivations of its paper thin characters. Thankfully the fragmented nature of this tease seems to imply that Agent 47 is back playing the marble in a massive, lavish reorganising of Mouse Trap.

E3 2015 - BUSTER SWORD

After last year's frustrating, upscaled graphics bait-and-switch, Square Enix are finally delivering a lot of people's dream game (not mine), a current-gen Final Fantasy VII. Intense, nostalgic euphoria aside, it's encouraging to see Japanese developers wading back into the AAA space to wave their next-gen wares about. If Capcom can just remember how to how to make genre defining games again and Konami can find it in their hearts to woo back Hideo Kojima, then we'll be golden.

Future Play

It's Disaster Year 2010, and it's still not the future. Automobiles do not fly, and full meals aren't available in pill form. 2010 is rubbish. Square Enix and Taito remember the future. Specifically, they remember the blip-blop incomprehensibility of future video games speculated by mid 80s sci-fi anime. Space Invaders Infinity Gene looks like interact overspill from Megazone 23 - all animation clean vector lines and indistinct objective areas, barely understandable to our under-evolved monkey mind. To the future!
