Streets of Rage 4: Mr. X Nightmare - SMS
Finally a release date for Streets of Rage 4's Mr. X Nightmare DLC! Due the 15th of this month, turns out the big boss' bad dreams are full of sandbox survival modes that mix and remix assets pulled from as far back as the Master System / Game Gear ports of the original games. Wonderful stuff.

Streets of Rage 4 - SWORDFISH
Streets of Rage 4's Mr X Nightmare DLC adds three new playable characters and a survival mode to one of last year's very best games. This paid update releases alongside a patch with some quality of life tweaks as well as a new difficulty mode and alternative colours for each of the playable Ragers. Perhaps we'll get the strange, Turbo-style colours seen in the western releases of Streets of Rage 3? Axel always looked pretty cool in a yellow T and black jeans. Officer Estel, a boss in the initial release of this sequel, is the first of the revealed fighters, while the shapes of the two remaining silhouettes would seem to suggest another two end-of-level challengers, the brainwashed Max and Mr X's right-hand man, Shiva?

Streets of Rage 4 - BEAT AMBIENCE
Streets of Rage 4's final character has been revealed, the looming silhouette seen on previous disclosures is neither Streets of Rage 2's pro-wrestler Max Hatchett nor Streets of Rage 3's cyborg shock master Dr Zan. 4 instead ships with a new rager named Floyd Iraia, a mechanised bruiser who looks to combine key elements of those previously mentioned one-and-done fighters, as well as a couple of straight lifts from Mortal Kombat's Jax. Fingers crossed that kickboxing kangaroo Roo and series mainstay Skate are unlockable (or more likely available for additional purchase) somewhere along the way.

Streets of Rage 4 - BLACK OUTLINE
The Streets of Rage 4 staff talk us through the art end of game development. Despite its brevity, this clip covers a lot of conceptual ground - from how the developers have implemented unrealised graphical flourishes from old, dusty Sega design documents to the importance of a nice, solid, black outline on key character art. If all that wasn't encouraging enough, the glimpse of Akira Toriyama's The World sitting on an artist's desk pretty much seals the deal.

Streets of Rage 4 - THE POETS
Streets of Rage 4 developers Jordi Asensio, Cyrille Lagarigue and Beausoleil Samson-Guillemette talk us through the influences and ideas bearing down on Sega's long-awaited sequel. Happily, Asensio talks about minimising the kind of modern, repeat value influences that have derailed other, promising looking 2D action games. By the sounds of it, Rage 4 is content to be a good, old-fashioned, belt beat 'em up.

Streets of Rage 4 - LIGHTNING CHUCKS
Adam's back! Despite being absent for both Mega Drive sequels (replaced by his younger, zippier brother Skate), the older Hunter brother returns to fight alongside his daughter, the already revealed Cherry. In the original Streets of Rage Adam was the hits harder but moves slower character. Although light on a detailed mechanical breakdown, this trailer does demonstrate the idea that Adam's screen-clearing mobility comes from his lancing special moves rather than the light stroll he uses to position himself on your television.

Streets of Rage 4 - SHRED
Since Paprium is never (ever) coming out, I'm pinning all my belt-action hopes on Streets of Rage 4. This fourth entry introduces yet another member of the Hunter family, Cherry - the daughter of one-and-done hero Adam and niece of follow-up thumper Skate (or Sammy if you're Japanese). Cherry battles street scum with jumping fierces and a malfunctioning electric guitar.

Streets of Rage 4 - WORLD WARRIORS
Thanks, in part, to the Brave Wave Productions music label, the Streets of Rage 4 development team have been able to assemble an absolute dream team of Japanese video game music composers. New bop tracks from Bare Knuckle stalwarts Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima would be more than enough, but those two masters are also joined by Yoko Shimomura (Final Fight and Street Fighter II), Keiji Yamagishi (Tecmo Bowl and NES Ninja Gaiden), and Hideki Naganuma (Dreamcast Sega Rally 2 and the incomparable Jet Set Radio).

Streets of Rage 4 - GRAND UPPER
Outta nowhere comes a Streets of Rage sequel courtesy of Lizardcube, Guard Crush Games and DotEmu. Based on this tease, Lizardcube, the French development team who gave Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap a new lease of life, look to be working their luxurious, makeover magic with Sega's long-neglected Bare Knuckle series.
