E3 2014 TOFU

I'm the easiest Capcom mark in the world, so this spot for (deep breath) Super Ultra Dead Rising 3' Arcade Remix Hyper Edition EX Plus Alpha had me reassessing if I needed an Xbox One in my life. It looks like Capcom Vancouver got hold of a copy of Capcom Design Works, stuffed it in a blender with a load of penny sweets, then sprinkled the resultant gunk all over their grimey threequel.

NICE WRENCH

Poor Dead Rising. The series began as an Xbox 360 exclusive that had the temerity to talk about Ugly American consumerism whilst offering an endless array of zombies to mush. Lead characters were crass and flabby, the main plot moving on how extreme bovine farming had inadvertently triggered an undead epidemic in Central America. As far as video games go, it was a pretty subversive move on Capcom's part to specifically create a game only available on an American console that so aggressively criticised the nation. With that in mind, it's a shame to see this latest attempt at selling Xbox One exclusive Dead Rising 3. Strap yourself in for four witless minutes of prank reality designed to get teenage Dew guzzlers salivating.

E3 2013: Dead Rising 3

Although obscured here by incessant editing, Dead Rising 3's hook is a detritus rich city swamped with zombies. The segment demoed during Microsoft's conference was an unbroken stream of action, rolling from suburban gardens onto roofs, into buildings, and ending with our mechanic hero commandeering a muscle car for a splattery escape. Seemingly any old crap could be scavenged on the fly to create flesh rending weaponry, and there were also few obvious limits flagged on the play area. Even if Dead Rising 3 turns about to be a smaller variety of sandbox, just the idea of such persistent, overwhelming threat is a tempting one. Dead Rising 3 is currently an Xbox One exclusive and, considering Microsoft is publishing it, likely to remain so.
